Sit & Make: Sitting and Making

Finally! Time to test Sit & Make.

Making a chair is simple. A user just has to sit down, find a comfortable position and press the red button to create their own unique design.

As you can see, the final forms allude to the original sitting positions. The more room a user takes up, the larger the chair tends to be. Using the armrests pulls up the sides of the shape. There is a also a lot of variety in the textures on the chairs and each of the designs proposed are unique and redefine the form of traditional chairs.

Enjoying

I am happy with Sit & Make. I set out to build a system that explored how creativity can be achieved with computational techniques via chairs designed by sitting on a chair. Although not finished articles, the forms suggested by Sit & Make are novel. They are not shapes that you would traditionally associate with chairs and provide inspiration for new designs. Sit & Make shows that the human mind is not the only source of creativity. Given the right circumstance, the body can come up new ideas as well.
